Train's latest hit "If It's Love" takes a stab at American Idol. After this season, I can't really blame them. Idol is sinking faster than the titanic. I love having Ellen as a judge, but at this point I don't think even her comedy can save this show. However, there are a few winners who have had and will continue to have accomplished careers. Lets take a trip down Idol road..
Season 1:
The only standout bigger than Justin Guarini's hair from this season is Kelly Clarkson. So she has been scrutinized for fluctuating weight. Who gives a damn. The girl has pipes, and she has managed to stay true to herself. Millions of records later, she is still rocking out to some of my favorite tracks "Don't Let Me Stop You" and "Sober"...and "Low" will always be on my iPod...not to mention her duet with Reba. Always gotta love me some Reba. I only watched the last few weeks of that season, but Kelly's talent got me hooked. And let's be honest, Idol's life would have sucked without her. btDUB...is Justin's hair still big enough to hide all of life's little secrets?
Season 2:
Ruuuuuuuuuuben Studdard won (gotta give it up for the big nugget) but no one has really heard from him since (I think he's singing gospel/soul now???) And Clay..well, he attempted a career in pop music and once that failed he officially came out and had a baby with his straight best girl friend. Kudos! Kimberly Locke had a single 8th World Wonder that lacked being wonderful. And I thought Josh Gracin would actually do well in the country genre..I liked his songs but he hasn't been as successful as I'm sure he had hoped for.
Season 3:
Fantasia took the winnings in this one, but followed down Ruben's path and did not do too well once the Idol hype died down. I never saw The Color Purple, which I heard she was great in, but as for music...fail. My fav this season was Diana DeGarmo. I loved her album and think she had a great voice. Unfortunately I believe her age got the best of her and she became another minor pop star, swallowed up by the bigger names of Britney and Christina. It seems the one who really benefited from Idol this season was Jennifer Hudson. She starred in movies alongside Beyonce and Dakota Fanning, and even won an award. She is now married with a baby and has lost weight, and her career is still hot. You go girl!
Season 4:
Ah, my favorite winner by miles. CARRIE UNDERWOOD. She is the only one, to this day, who I picked out during the auditions to be the winner. And win did she ever. She is gorgeous, her voice is flawless and she is one of the most classy young music artists out there. Her music will be timeless, right along side the music of Dolly, Reba, Martina, and Faith. Her rendition of Heart's Alone was amazing and there is not a single song of hers that I have disliked. I hope she sticks around for a while, because if I'm stuck having to listen to T Swift I will be very disappointed. Congrats to Carrie, she deserves all the success in the world. Oh and we can't forget about Bo. I really did like him as well. I wish he had been more successful after Idol, but who knows, maybe he'll surprise us with a great country rock album. That would be awesome.
Season 5:
Mr. Taylor Hicks won this season..somehow..boring. There were many others who I would have preferred to win. Like Kellie Pickler..or Chris Daughtry..or Elliot Yamin. Even K McPhee would have been better. Oh well, I'm still a huge fan of Daughtry and Pickler, both who have been extremely successful since Idol. Pickler's I Wonder is an amazing ballad, and Daughtry just kicks ass on all of his records. Maybe Hicks should have succumbed to the pressures of Hollywood and dyed his hair..might have helped him win over some younger fans. It's a cruel world.
Season 6:
The season of Sanjaya....yuck. I do not know how Simon allowed that one. Thank goodness for Jordin Sparks, who saved that season and probably Idol. Melinda Doolittle was a little spit fire too. Wonder what happened to her?? Hmmm..at least Jordin has been successful. Battlefield is one of my favorites, partially because of Jeanine and Brandon's hip hop routine by Laurie Ann Gibson to that song. Love really is a battlefield...wow it's getting late....almost done.
Season 7:
I am definitely a huge fan of David Cook. His single "Permanent" still gives me the chills. His voice is raw and his talent is limitless. I cannot wait until his next album. America definitely got it right this season choosing Cook over Archuleta...poor kid.
Season 8:
So I have to say..I was pulling for Scott for a while. I mean, the guy is visually impaired, and as a future special education teacher, I have to applaud his determination. I'm also a DG, and we provide Aide, or in this case votes, to the visually impaired. However, I soon realized he just didn't have the chops to pull it off. In the end, the right man won..and how can you resist that crooked smile of Kris Allen. Num num num. Although Lambert has had much more publicity (hmm I wonder why) Kris has held his own and his debut album was, in my opinion, pretty solid. And Adam's was too. I also love, love, love Allison Iraheta's album (Still Breathing is one of my favorites) and I'm looking forward to Danny Gokey's adventure to the country side. Much luck to them all.
Season 9:
Aww and we've finally arrived to this season..and not a minute too soon. If you're still reading this...I'm sorry. I loved DiDi's audition with Kara's "Terrified" but unfortunately America did not love her. I'm also a Bowersox fan, but my true favorite this season is Lee. Oh Lee, so dreamy. The scratchiness in his voice will make for a great rock album. He may be one of the last Idol winners..let us hope, for Idol's sake. I will vote and keep my fingers crossed for him.
So to wrap this up..Train sings.."While everyone else is getting out of bed, I'm usually getting in it, I'm not in it to win it.."
And although Idol has produced some great winners, this season it doesn't seem like anyone is really in it to win it, and it makes me want to go to bed. Hopefully the show can redeem itself in the next few weeks. Fortunately for me, whether it does or not, SYTYCD starts May 27th, and that show never disappoints.

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars...
So Airplanes by B.o.B. feat. Haley Williams from Paramore is my favorite song of the moment. The beat is solid and Haley's voice really makes the chorus. I've always been a fan of Paramore and was excited to see her partner with an up and coming hip-hop artist. If you haven't heard this song, check it out. Also, check out the remix with Eminem. I've loved Eminem since day one. To say he is a lyrical genius is an understatement, and his collaboration on the remix makes the song even better.
A sample of the song's lyrics:
"Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?"
I really need a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now..
-And when your plans unravel in the sand
What would you wish for if you had one chance
So airplane, airplane sorry I'm late
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that, then I switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night-"
